Friday lunch shift ouftit
by unpetitfauve
Alternate title for this post: “So you’ve decided to give in to your dorkery and bust out the Star Trek lunch box at work.”
For the longest time I assumed I could only wear my black cashmere turtleneck under my favorite blue military jumper. What a ridiculous assumption on my part! Only recently have I decided to start wearing different blouses with it. Today I wore this jumper and my Vintage Betty blouse to work.
Dress: ModCloth
Blouse: Vintage Betty, from Sorella
Tights: GAP
Boots: from Sole Desire
I like the innocence invoked in a peter pan collar and a drop waist. Actually, the reason why I became interested in sewing was because I thought that, one day, I could make my own Twenties-style drop waist dresses with peter pan collars. With this outfit, I think I was subconsciously going for a childlike, Sixties aesthetic. So obviously if my Barthesian subconscious is pushing me toward that look, I might as well pack my lunch in my super retro Star Trek lunch box. Yeah, I pretty much command respect.
So anyway, I’m making myself a tweed skirt on my new sewing machine. It’s an excellent machine and much more user-friendly than the antique Singer. Don’t get me wrong, I love that old Singer, but it’s not good for beginners. It works too fast. And it only does straight stitches, which is frustrating. Sometimes a gal needs a zig-zag option for her knit fabrics.
Of course I’ll show you the skirt when it’s done!
Also, I’m going to work some more on my book tonight. I have some really exciting ideas for the next few poems!

[...] One of my favorite dresses comes from Modcloth, actually. You can see it in this post and this post. [...]
